洋为中用（6）

                         --用阅读中的佳词佳句 “装饰”你的作文

经过两个月的暑假的推广，精品班及高分班的学员普遍认为洋为中用佳词佳句积淀法可操作性强，是为自己作文寻找精致“装饰品”的有效途径。而基础班及低起点班的学员认为自己缺乏研究及完全读懂阅读篇章的能力，还是希望老师能不断更新自己的论文，为他们找到更多优秀并实用的“点缀品”。小小的坚持就能为很多学员带来收获，看来值得将洋为中用继续做下去。

这次详解的是IELTS PLUS里面一篇关于talents的文章中的佳词佳句。

This definition has fallen from favour, eclipsed by the advent of IQ tests.这句可以译为：这种定义（天才的）法则被新出现的智商测试盖过锋芒从而失宠。也可以译为：随着智商测试的出现，这种定义（天才的）法则渐渐退出舞台。这个句子在写作当中用途甚广。例1：随着网络通讯工具(QQ/MSN)的出现，传统的沟通方式渐渐退出舞台。Traditional communication methods have fallen from favour, eclipsed by the advent of Internet communication tools such as QQ and MSN. 例2：随着教学资源的不断丰富，在校学习渐渐失宠。Learning with teachers has fallen from favour, eclipsed by other teaching sources.与大家熟知的“With the development of ……, ……has/have fallen from favour.”相比，这个句型更加高级、更加脱俗。

If we are therefore assuming that talented, creative or gifted individuals may need to be assessed across a range of abilities, does this mean intelligence can run in families as a genetic or inherited tendency? 这句我们学习的不是句型，而需要关注的是一些关于有才之士的表达。除了我们平时经常用的clever, bright, promosing以外，这句当中的talented, creative, gifted也正有此意。另外genetic和inherited（遗传的）也是雅思阅读写作的高频词汇，曾在剑7Test1Task2的考官范文中频繁出现。

Animal experiments throw some light on this question of whether it is genetics, the environment or a combination of the two that allows for intelligence and creative ability. 动物实验阐释了基因和环境哪个更能开发智力及创新能力这个问题。这个句子也是一个适合使用在雅思、托福议论文引言段的句子。例：我的文章将会阐释富裕国家到底应该拿什么来拯救贫困国家，金钱还是其它？My essay will throw light on the question of whether rich countries should give financial support or other types of help to poor countries.

Someone may be born with innate intelligence, but their enviornment probably has the final say over whether they become creative or even a genius. 有人一出生就智商很高，但能不能成为有才之士，环境起到了至关重要的作用。若我们要表达“有人一出生就很有天赋，但能不能成为优秀的艺术家，努力程度起到了至关重要的作用”也就不难了。-- Someone may be born with innate talent, but their performance probably has the final say over whether they become a successful artist.
